On 10th April, 1915, the 1st Dorset battalion of 15 Brigade, 5th Division moved into the front line at Ypres. After a relatively quiet start to the month activity around Ypres was starting to intensify as the British prepared to attack Hill 60 in the south of the salient and the enemy were gearing up for their gas attacks further north. The artillery action of both sides increased and it is likely that it was this that accounted for the death of Harris Cassonman on 21st April.
